Railways Approves 4,098 Technical Hires to Boost Safety Across Zones

The Ministry of Railways has approved the recruitment of 4,098 technical personnel across various railway zones to strengthen operational safety and improve the efficiency of the Indian Railways network. The vacancies span 35 technical categories, with recruitment to be carried out through the Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) under a centralized process. Centralised Employment Notifications (CENs) are scheduled to be issued from 21 July 2026 onwards.

According to the Railway Ministry, the highest number of vacancies are in critical safety-related departments:

• Permanent Way: 845 posts
• Works Department: 470 posts
• Carriage & Wagon: 450 posts
• Junior Engineer (Signal): 197 posts
• Junior Engineer (Telecommunication): 79 posts
• Additional vacancies are spread across other technical disciplines, including Depot Material Superintendents and Chemical & Metallurgical Assistants.

Recruitment Process

The Railway Ministry has directed all railway zones to:

• Finalize vacancy details through the HRMS.
• Ensure reservation norms for SC, ST, OBC, and EWS categories are followed.
• Upload the final vacancy data before the centralized notification is issued.
• Conduct recruitment through the designated Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs).

Objective of the Recruitment

The large-scale recruitment aims to:

• Fill long-pending vacancies in safety-related departments.
• Reduce workload on existing railway staff.
• Improve passenger safety and maintenance standards.
